The target requested information on popular sports series for elementary (gr. 2-5). The Baseball Card series by Dan Gutman and the books by Mike Lupica are popular in my school with better readers. Following is a summary of the replies, and at the bottom the responses to the question of how to pronounce Lupica. --- Matt Christopher books (6) Jake Maddox (4) Fred Bowen (2) Dean Hughes Scrapper series (2) Tim Green John Feinstein David Halecroft (these seem to be OP) Our kids (maybe because it's a girls' school) love Mia and Bravo, Mia! by Laurence Yep and the autobiographies Michelle Kwan: Heart of a Champion and Tara Lipinski: Triumph on Ice. --- Everything I've read says it's "LOO-puh-kuh". Mike Lupica is a sports writer and is on ESPN sometimes. Pronounced LOU picka. Hope this is helpful. His name is pronounced Loo pick ah. (2) It's Lou-pie-ca. Emphasis on second syllable. -- Anne Oelke Library Media Specialist pK-12 Cambria-Friesland School Dst.
