Here are the responses from today's request for reliable book jobbers. Thanks so much to all!!!! I love Ingram. I haven't used B & T for years. It took months to get orders from them. _____________ I've been well pleased with Follett for a school library. I can't speak to their service for a bookstore, since I've never worked in one. You said the "credit bureau" gave B&T an F because they ignored a complaint. I wonder if the Better Business Bureau was meant. I'd also be interested to know how many complaints B&T handled. Giving an "F" to a business that large because they "ignored" one complaint seems a bit strange. I love Bound to Stay Bound, but I don't think that a bookstore owner would need this type of book. How about Brodart in Williamsport, PA. They service a lot of public libraries. I have not had a problem with them when ordering either furniture or library supplies, so their book division is probably fine, too. (Actually I have a friend from grad school with 22 years experience in a combined high school/public library who works in that division. They have former librarians working for them to help create opening day collections, etc.) Deb Deborah J. Hendrickson, Media Specialist/Tech Coordinator & Trainer Westernport Elementary School _ I have an amazing jobber that will go to the ends of the Earth! Here is her information: Books Galore Lori Puvalowski (800)598-4217 books.galore@sbcglobal.net Please contact her! Patricia, I LOVE and respect Ingram. I've had a working relationship with them over 15 years. No real problems in all that time...recommended to me by a public librarian. Saranne Gans Librarian I love Baker and Taylor and have been a customer for all 15 years I have worked here. My person is Carol LeMasters and she is super. They have never ignored a complaint from me, and believe me, there have been very few complaints!! The bookstore people would deal with a different department maybe... Olive Woodward Librarian Hi Patricia, I don't think anyone could do a better job than Mackin! They are a family owned business that specializes in customer care and personal attention. Give them a try! Best, Toni We have used Baker and Taylor for years and been completely satisfied. We have had no trouble getting responses from customer service, even when we need rush shipments. Jodi James-Genovese Media Specialist Jenison High School We use Ingram because their prices are discounted for us (up to 42%) as members of Tenn-share; also, their primary warehouse is only an hour away, which speeds up delivery. -- Ellen Taylor, LMS Rossview High School 1237 Rossview Road Clarksville, TN 37043 I use Follett and never have had any trouble with them. Baker and Taylor are not very dependable. Carol Hammer Calvert Catholic Schools Tiffin, Ohio Hi Patricia- We would love for you to take a look at our website if you have a chance (www.mackin.com) and hopefully you will get some other positive feedback from LM-Netters about us as well. We have a new rep. who now covers the state of Indiana and our company recently provided a portion of the Opening Day collection at Avon Middle in Avon, Indiana. Ann Mansfield, Nat'l Bd. Certified LMS Opening Day Collections Coordinator Mackin Library Services Burnsville, MN. ann.mansfield@mackin.com 800-245-9540 Trish, I have not used them personally, but it seems that Mackin is often mentioned on LM_NET. Does this mean we might have a new independent book store in the area? That would be wonderful! Hope all is going well. Patrice Huckaby, media specialist South Central Elementary School 6595 E. Highway 11 SE Patricia, used B&T for at least 15 years and never had a single problem. Just called customer service ( got a lovely Georgia accent) and things were taken care of immediately! Upside down books, inappropriate, duplicates, whatever, they would let us return them. Since it is so easy to catalog with automated systems, I would order books uncataloged and usually had them all in less than a week or 10 days at most. Prices were great too and their website lets you know if they have it in stock so there is no need to write a "do not exceed" order to get what you really want. I really like B&T. Darlene Yasick Retired Wyoming, MI I found Baker and Taylor to be the best. I find it hard to believe that they would knowingly ignore a complaint as they were always extremely responsive for me. Jan Davies Retired Media Specialist Ashburn, VA Mackin is my go-to book jobber Joanne Glasgow Teacher Librarian Evergreen Campus Library serving AAA, HS3 and TEC HS Seattle, WA Hi, I use B&T and the only issue I have with them is that less than often but more than infrequently (if that makes sense) books will come uncataloged because they don't have enough information or they don't know if I want the book in FIC or MYS or whatever. They have always been helpful when I've had to call about something. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
