Here's my question to the President:
Why did you abandon libraries in your latest budget? We know that school
libraries are a most effective way of increasing student achievement and are
being slowly eroded across the country. Continued and increased funding is
needed in the Increasing Literacy through School Libraries program not
consolidation with competing programs. I also wonder why public library
employment was not explicitly included in your jobs package. In hard times,
public libraries are one of the main institutions people turn to for help in
all sorts of issues including job training and job seeking.
