I believe the purpose of having ed.voicethread.com and having users register and
log in is to make
it more appealing to those educational authorities who routinely block many Web 2.0
tools because
they do have public access.

Here in Australia, many of these sorts of tools are blocked because our authorities
do not want
students to be able to access (from school) inappropriate content that is available
by clicking on
links within the site - what is uploaded by the general public is not censored -
and nor do they
want any Internet-cruising Joe Public to be able to leave inappropriate comments on
the students'
work. The more cynical would say this is more about protecting themselves from
litigation than the
students from moral harm.

While this remains very frustrating, an objective view can see their reasoning and
because of the
outcry from teachers to not having access to these public domain tools, some state
education
authorities are providing their own behind firewalls and other security measures.
Meanwhile, others
such as Voicethread are trying to address the issue with registration and logins..

Subject: [LM_NET] ed.voicethread

Good morning,

Has anyone had experience using www.ed.voicethread.com? I have come to find
that using regular voicethread.com you can send the url link to your project
and others can view it without having to login or sign up to voicethread.
However, with ed.voicethread.com the projects can't be viewed by others by
just sending the url link. I want to be able to use the ed.voicethread
program because it doesn't limit the number of projects you can create on
that account. With the regular voicethread they limit you to 3, I think.

Our website creation tool (Contribute) do not allow for embedding, otherwise
I would embed everything. If you have found a way to use the URL from the
ed.voicethread site, without requiring others to login or register, can you
please let me know?

Thanks in advance!
