I’ve been working as a school librarian / media specialist for seven years. This year, I was fortunate to get one of the six Smart Boards purchased by our principal. I have been using it daily with students grades K-6 for activities including: - creating maps of the library (4th grade social studies curriculum includes map skills), - downloading and showing videos and video segments from Discovery Education (Streaming) and other Web sites, - giving students practice searching the library catalog, online encyclopedias, and online magazine databases, - read-aloud and readers‘ theatre, in conjunction with the document camera. I would like to ask you all for suggestions for additional ways to integrate use of the Smart Board and document camera into library time. The biggest constraint I have is that I see each class for only 30 minutes, one time per week, and this time includes time for book checkout. So, any Smart Board activities have to be short but powerful. Also, I’m determined to choose activities in which students use the Smart Board (under my supervision), rather than just watching me use it. Thank you, in advance, for any ideas you can suggest.
