There is quite the controversy brewing over at the American Library Service for Children, a section of the American Library Association. On the ballot there will be a bylaws change for the age groups as defined. The first one is to change the words preschool to 0. No problem with that. Many of us work with families of infants and babies. My personal scope of service includes whole families as well as infants from our daycare center 6 months and up. The controversy stems from the second bylaw change to change the upper end from 8th grade or last year of Junior High to age 13. For those of us who serve prek-8th grade this is a little nuts. For those who want the history and discussion can go to ALSC connect at ALA.org. I urge those on LM-NET who are members of ALSC to return their ballots marked no on the upper range change. Those with more questions on this matter can contact me off list. Thank you.
