I have just discovered a way to "convert" my netbook into an ebook reader.
http://lifehacker.com/5468581/turn-your-netbook-into-a-feature+rich-e+book-reader

So far the ideas I have tried work - and I am now playing around with reading an
ebook for fun. It is a little clunky - because netbooks are heavier than Kindles -
but it gives me an idea of the experience to see if I want to invest the money in a
reader. I think I will wait for the iPad, rather than going for the kindle.

Anyway...I downloaded my first ebook from our public library. My question is -
can ebooks books be downloaded from Amazon or Barnes & Noble onto a laptop - or do
you have to own a Kindle or some other proprietary ebook reader to be able to do so?
