Hi Everyone,

Here's a real pick me up for you. Books with humor seem to be in short supply and
this one was hilarious. I have more humor books on abookandahug.com. You can
search the category on the left side or go into Find A Book and search by category
and reading level. And here it is:

A Whole Nother Story by Dr. Cuthbert Soup

"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" and that's "A Whole Nother Story." The entire
Cheeseman family is piling into the white station wagon along with Dad's invention,
the LVR, and is racing out of reach of the CIA, the supersecret spies, Aitch Dee
and El Kyoo, and Agent Dushenko and his superchimp, Leon. En route the kids will
change their names and become Maggie, Jough (pronounced Joe) and Gerard, oh, and
Steve, the sock puppet. Someone killed Mom a couple years ago so we know these
people are serious. They want the LVR and they are prepared to do anything to get
it. Anything includes dodging a yak, firing a banana, and debating the merits of
scrunching and mooshing. As the family careens down the highway, they make friends
with a traveling circus and encounter a ghost in a tube top. Talk about slapstick.
You can see the movie play in your own head. This is one hilarious tale. Great
for reluctant readers.
Bloomsbury 2009

Enjoy,

Subject: REVIEW: Ninth Grade Slays
Ninth Grade Slays (The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, Book 2)
by Heather Brewer.
Scholastic, 2008.
278 pages.

The second installment in this series does not disappoint. Readers are "sucked"
(pun intended) into the story by the second paragraph. A hunter for hire is after
Vlad. Not only that, a vampire slayer shows up in town looking for any vampire to
slay. Vlad truly has his hands full--trying to fool a hunter and a slayer and yet
keep up his grades and try to get Meredith to notice him. This is no small
feat--even if you are super-human!

Vladlearns skills from the greatest teacher in vampiredom. He is now able to read
people's thoughts and to plant thoughts into their minds. He is even able to
communicate telepathically with his Uncle Otis and Henry, who is not only Vlad's
best friend, but has become his drudge--a faithful servant of a vampire.

This novel is even stronger than the first and much more fun. Readers who enjoyed
the first novel will like the second and chomp at the bit to devour (again, pun
intended) books three and four. Great fun, and recommended for YA collections.
