Hello Collective Brain-- I'm new at a middle school that has been using Scholastic Reading Counts for several years. The school improvement team is getting ready to take a look at whether or not it is actually cost effective. I'm not a fan of the program and would love to see it die of benign neglect. I know that the first complaint that will come up is that teachers who use if for grades will have to find another way to grade students for that part of their language arts credit. Has anybody out there either transitioned from a reading program and gone through this or have dynamite suggestions that I can offer teachers for this purpose?
