My school's TAG teacher has asked if I could recommend a replacement read for "Watsons Go To Birmingham". She's used it for the last several years, but was informed that middle school uses that book (there's apparently a list of titles that staked out for middle school reads--that elementary teachers are asked not to use). At any rate, what my TAG teacher needs is a good read for her higher-level TAG students (5th graders) that will lend itself to a good discussion of both the 60s and Civil Rights. Ideas? I'm home with laryngitis and would love to send her a list. I'll be happy to post a hit if there's interest. Ronda Y.
