ONLINE CLASSES: You will need Power-

classes.

EDC 586-920:Using the Internet for Teaching,
Learning, & Practical Applications (3) Class
meets 2/1-5/3/2010.

Students will learn how to find relevant infor-
mation among the abundance of raw data
found online, evaluate its worth and credibility,
and effectively use it to solve an issue or prob-
lem. Students will also learn “Information Liter-
acy Skills” (how to develop their own 'research
and evaluation' skills) and transfer this knowl-
edge to the students in their classrooms. Ap-
propriate for grades K-12.

Instructor: Dave Fontaine

EDC 586-921:Using Blogs & Wikis to Foster Lit-
eracy (3) Class meets 2/1-5/3/2010.

Participants will focus on the pragmatism of using
Web 2.0 (interactive tools) in education. They will also
learn how to use interactive, online
tools to:
foster literacy in and out of school;
Differentiate Instruction;
deepen learning and in-
crease student achievement;
create opportunities to bring these technologies to the larger
school community; and identify assessment
tools that measure the effectiveness of Interac-
tive Web technologies in their personal practice
with their students. Appropriate for
grades K-12

Instructor: Dave Fontaine

EDC 922: Online Texts & Open Educational Re-
sources (3) Class meets 2/1-5/3/2010.

Thousands of educators are now uploading their best lessons, units,
and curricula and freeing the material from copyrights. Why recreate
the wheel when some of the best teachers the world has to offer are
giving away their material freely. Dozens of colleges and universities
are joining the 'Open Courseware Consortium' and freely sharing all of
their lessons, lectures, and textbooks.
Participants of this course will receive hands-on experience with the
most important technologies & concepts behind
Web 2.0, as well as the Open Educational Resources Movement.
The course also walks participants through a thorough un-
derstanding of collaborative authoring tools like
wikis, how to use these tools to improve instruc-
tion, how to use collaborative software to create
digital textbooks, and how to gain access to unlim-
ited amounts of free digital textbooks and curricu-
lum material for their district. Upon completion,
teachers will receive unlimited free digital text-
books and curriculum material for their entire
district. This course is appropriate for grades K-
12. (The benefits of this course increase when it is taken with co-workers.)
