I agree.  Here's the response I sent that was not included in the HITL

I do purchase the edgier titles but I try to be familiar with which ones
might have objectionable content.  If a younger student picks up a book
that I think may be a problem, I tell the student that it is PG-13 and
ask if that would be ok with their parent.  I never tell a child they
cannot check out a book unless I have had a specific request from that
child's parent (that happens rarely, but it does happen).  When parents object
(and I've only had a few that did) I tell them that I have to purchase
books for a variety of reading and maturity levels.  As a general rule,
my 6th graders don't want to read the books that are more appropriate
for 8th grade -- they seem to instinctively know what they are ready
for.
