This year we are opening a new school that is PK-8. We presently have about 900
students registered. Initially, they were planning on having 2 full time
librarians, but because the enrollment has not maxed out at 1200, I will be the
only one. I do have a full time library tech, who does processing, shelving books
and checking in and out.

In our school system, the elementary school library is used as one of the teacher
planning times. That means that we normally see 6 classes a day for 45 minutes
each. If that continues this year, there will be no time for the middle school
classes to have any time in the library except to check out books.

Let me add that we have 4 classes per grade level in PK-5 and 3 homerooms in grades
6-8 (middle grades) There are spaces in the library for middle and elementary,
divided by shelves.

Does anyone have any suggestions for scheduling? I would like to have some ideas
to present to the administration when we talk.

Thank you,
Sherry Sanders
