Here is a hit of the responses I received. I meant to have this posted a couple of days ago. Toni Buzzeo writes a Dear Mrs. Skorupski column for Library Sparks. She has a number of interesting articles in this magazine, including an article on book clubs in November 2008 or student book award programs (Keep 'em Reading) in January 2009. My research dug up a number of other related articles in Library Sparks over the years. She is a regular contributor to the magazine and will have a "Dear Mrs. Skorupski" column on "library clubs" (which will include a long section on reading/book clubs) in the January 2011 issue of LibrarySparks magazine. Details of that article cannot be released prior to the publication. "You know, one thing that was true at my elementary school was that the "Literacy Lockdown Time" as we fondly referred to literacy block :> was often a struggle for teachers, who were expected to keep a carousel of reading groups actively engaged in various literacy activities while they met individually for 20 minutes with each reading group. While I didn't institute a reading club during that time, I did use the flexibility of my flexible schedule to invite each second and first grade teacher to schedule each group for a 20 minute slot in the library for book exchange and reading time. In this way, I had a regular host of kids in and out of the library during that 90 minute block with books and reading on their minds. I think that literacy block might be a perfect time to run your book/reading clubs!" Go to the following link and you will find a posting from Bonnie Martiny relating to results of hits for Library Clubs. This posting was on June 30, 2007. http://www.eduref.org/plweb-cgi/fastweb?getdoc+listservs+LM_NET+8323+7+wAAA+reading%26clubs I didn't receive any other hits, but there is much reading to be done in various issues of Library Sparks. I will keep searching and if I come across anything relevant, I will post it to this group, as well as any additional comments I receive.
