Original Question:

Does anyone have a hand-out or brochure regarding copyright information to
give out to teachers, or a PowerPoint, etc.?

I have about 10 minutes to present to the staff copyright information and I
was hoping someone had something they may have already done that can get me
started on the best approach.

Thank you in advance.

You may want to look at the Creative Commons video(s) at
http://creativecommons.org/about/.

I share the following information (and expand upon it) as a part of a
PowerPoint related to the Library and Services we provide at the first
Faculty meeting every school year.

Legally acquired original

10% of text or less

Consumables/workbooks may not be copied

Maximum 5 artworks per artist

Instructional face-to-face video/DVD

30 seconds of music - Soundzabound subscription

1 CD/license = 1 computer

I also have several handouts I give to them, one of which is a legal sheet
of paper that outlines Copyright and FairUse Guidelines for Teachers.

a) it has a section (which can be cut off) that each school employee must
sign and return to me.

b) teachers keep the letter size portion and put it in their faculty
handbook and I file my portion.

I'm attaching the URL for the PDF of the file on Copyright
www.techlearning.com/techlearning/pdf/db.../copyright_chart.pdf

To create my master for copying on 8 1/2 X 14 . . .

1) This document is printed on a 8 1/2 X 11 paper

2) I attach a piece of paper at the end of the 8 1/2 X 11 to make it 8

1/2 X 14

3) On one side of the attached paper I have typed . . .

"Copyright Law Agreement" A copy of the current copyright guidelines is
located in the Library Media Center. I understand that I am responsible for
any infringement of the law. These laws include photocopying, use of music,
literature, artwork, etc. . . . as well as video recordings, off-air tapings
of programs, computer programs and other technology.

Any questions I have will be directed to my Library Media Specialist.

4) I add a space for them to print their name

5) I add a space for them to sign and date

6) On the 2nd side of the attached paper I have typed (be sure this is on
the same end as the first attachment) . . .

"Special Notes to Teachers:" Use of any taped TV programs must be requested
in advance, used for face-to-face instruction, shown within 10 days of the
recording, and erased within 45 days. All videos shown must have and
Educational/instructional purpose, be listed in your lesson plans, be shown
in face-to-face instruction and cannot be used for time fillers, rewards, or
entertainment (the Friday afternoon special).

Personally owned computer programs used at school must be the original
program that you own the rights to and must be submitted for review by the
Technology Office. The classroom teacher must have the original program and
documentation available in the classroom.

7) Once I tape these 2 additions to the 8 1/2 X 11 to make it 14 long, then
I photocopy the number I need for the staff

8) the staff signs the 3" long portion that extends past 11 inches and
returns that portion to me and files the 8 1/2 page in their Faculty
handbook.

I just finished sending my staff a message about

movies at school. Here is a website that

explains it well:

From Carol Simpson:

If you have my book, there is a brochure in the back that you are free to

copy for your building.

You can take a look at one I created a few years ago

http://www.mrsd.org/~Library/links.htm#copy - it's the first item

(brochure)

If you do use it, just leave my "credits" intact please

I have a PowerPoint presentation and handouts that you are free to use. I
have a Copyright FAQ and a Copyright Quick Tips for teachers and a copyright
brochure for administrators. You can find these online at
http://scschoollibraries.pbworks.com.
