Dear Group, Thank you to one and all who responded to my plea for help. I cannot tell you how deeply appreciate I am. Many of you asked about putting shelving up against the wall - due to space configuration it is not an option. Others said I should still make my case for more space - sorry but that also is not an option - you don't know my P. And I really do want to keep the job given everything else going on right now. Please see below for what I have come with. It really is the best I could do given the limited amount of space on the application. Thank you again to all who responded. The media center would be redesigned to accommodate 21 st century technologies including Apple PowerBooks laptops and iPads for student use. To accomplish this certain library accessories would need to be removed in order to create the necessary area so that more students use the technology and other library resources. This would include the circulation desk and carrel behind it (replaced with a small teacher’s desk); shelving being used to store reference books; the long shelf along the wall; and three of the six tables located in the center. To furnish this “new” space I am requesting 32 wireless Apple PowerBooks laptops with two carts and iPads and a cart to secure those as well. This “new” space would now be occupied by carrels where either laptops or iPads may be used to do either web or book research and complete classroom assignments. The whiteboard and LCD now located in the media center will be used for instruct ion on web research and to support the completion of student assignments utilizing their research. The acquisition of eBooks and kindles would do away with most of the non-fiction books now being used for research, along with some fiction books thereby freeing up much-needed space. The PowerBooks and iPads need to have video editing/creating software loaded on them so that students can create book trailers and projects to present their research. The addition of Kidspiration software would promote differentiated learning as it is the way to explore words, numbers and concepts utilizing the visual modality. It is crucial that the library become the central area in the school where all students in grades K-6 can come to collaborate on their projects. Each of these requests is centered around maximizing kid space and resources so that our students will be afforded all the tools for learning and instruction that 21 st century technology has to offer to practice 21st century learning skills and practice their art of creativity.
