Thank you everyone for your information on rechargable batteries. I have included a list of Hit for all those who had the same question. Here is a list of the suggestions I recieved for rechargable batteries: I just bought the cheapest ones at Wal-Mart I could and they seem to work fine. Mary Taylor Reed Elementary / Thomas Middle Holdenville, OK mtaylor@holdenville.k12.ok.us I bought the ones from Follett. We've had success with them so far. They'd work even better if I can train my aides to take them out when the Playaway is turned in. :) Amanda Galliton, Librarian agalliton@wfisd.net Zundy Leadership Academy Wichita Falls ISD Wichita Falls, Texas I use Eneloop rechargeable batteries at home and love them. They maintain their charge for a long period of time but they are a bit expensive. I always order them from Amazon but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. You can also check out the reviews at Amazon to see other people's opinions on them. Hope this helps. Sarah Mabery Librarian E. C. Glass High School Lynchburg, VA maberysr@lcsedu.net Hi Lydia, We're using Duracell rechargeable. So far, so good. I think any charger works. Any name brand with a high rate should be good. I have both Duracell and Energizers and both make good rapid chargers that will recharge both AA and AAA in 15 minutes.
Carl Seale semi-retired cbseale@sbcglobal.net http://www.antiquesnthings.net
____________________________________________________________________
Our high schools charge $1 for batteries and earphones. It might be just the area in which I live, but I lost almost all of the batteries - even though I explained to the students as they checked out the playaway that I wanted them back to recharge them. I don't live in an area where recycling is a big interest (unfortunately) although I am totally an adherent. It might work better for you. If you come up with a way to make it work, please send the idea my way - I'd be really interested.
