Oyate at http://www.oyate.org is an orgnaization tht should not be ignored when
considering literature on the Native Americans from their perspective. Their
catalog is divided by grade as well as by subject.

Subject: Re: Target, ELE: 3rd grade core literature

Gloria Whelan's Next Spring an Oriole and its sequels, Night of the Full Moon and
Shadow of the Wolf, are excellent choices for North America and the Native American
experience in the 19th century. The books are on the short side, but that does not
detract from their usefulness for third to fourth graders.

My brain must be ready for bed--I should be able to think of more titles. Maybe
tomorrow! :-)
