Ditto on the Elephant & Piggie.  They are hands down the best early  
readers ever.

Jan Thomas is my other big favorite this year.  She is so hilarious!

Amy Krouse Rosenthal (Little Pea, etc.) also should not be missed.  We  
adore her work.
