OK, I am just seething today over several things, not the least of which is
library pink slips. So hit delete now if you don't want to hear a cranky
old man vent.

In 2008 our district passed a bond that included doubling the size of my
library and remodeling it, including a real textbook room. Along comes the
housing meltdown and a new superintendent and now there is not enough
bond money for a new library-- a second gym, a pool at another site, yes,
but not a library expansion. Meanwhile our textbook shelves are literally
disintegrating. 3 student aides barely escaped injury when a section
collapsed and several hundred textbooks fell. I was in the back computer
lab and it sounded like a train was coming through the building.

Administrators were notified, photos were taken, emails were exchanged, and
meetings were held. That was 6 months ago. Since then another collapse
crushed a steel ladder. We took the ladder to our shop teacher, who happens
to be our football coach (a good guy and a library supporter). He took a
look at the ladder and walked into the Principal's office and said that the
storage room was a lawsuit waiting to happen and something had to be done
(almost verbatim what I said several times over the last few months). Just
24 hours later maintenance is here, shaking their heads and taking
measurements, getting ready to fix the shelves.

So now I know. Go through the football coach if I want anything done.
Maybe he can get the AC fixed in our back lab (it has only been ten years
now). I am going to ask him to speak at the next board meeting.

AAAARRRRRGGGGGGG!

Tony
