[LM_NET] Help, Looking for a book

I need your help. A teacher remembers a book her 2nd or 3rd grade teacher read to 
her about twenty years ago. She would like to read it to her son. She remembers the 
cover being brown. It was about a young Native American girl who goes away and gets 
into many situations. She finds out that she is much stronger than she thought she 
was.She said it was an early chapter book about one hundred pages. I have no idea. 
I hope the vague clues sound familiar to someone. Thanks. Sharon
