Hello Colleagues, I will be working with a small group of at risk 7th grade students to teach them that effective effort will help in preparing for quizzes and tests. I would like to read a short picture book in which the main character brings about the change s/he wants, or meets a challenge, through effective effort - that is. not just working hard, but working smart - to effect change, solve a problem, meet a challenge, etc. It does NOT have to be about someone who has an academic problem - it could be any kind of problem. I thought of /A Chair for My Mother, /and /Brave Irene /but I'd like something geared a bit higher level. Also, I'd like the students to recognize the connection between working smart and succeeding - in the book, I mean - even if they don't use those words. Thanks for any titles you can give me ASAP, as I need to read this on Wednesday.
