Please take the time to vote! Thanks, Sara As I get some work done in chilly Sarasota, FL while on Spring break (70 today!!), it was interesting to find my Library Journal interview by John Barry first in my Google news feed on the Wachovia Market Feed, an indication of the role of libraries as a national level for global competitiveness and a means of recovery for the current economic conditions. The whole interview is at http://wachovia.mworld.com/m/m.w?lp=GetStory&id=419258721 as well as Library Journal, but I excerpt below (bolded words are my emphasis): "Each candidate comes from a well-defined ALA constituency-Raphael from the public libraries sector, Johns from the huge army of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Because each has ardent vocal supporters from these two powerful ALA camps, the campaign, especially online, is getting noisier." Yesterday, the current vote totals came out and the numbers are low: Of 55,325 eligible voters - 4,953 had voted (8.95%) This compares to 3/30/09: Of 56,067 eligible voters - 6,286 had voted (11.21%)We have really strong candidates for AASL and ALA Council this year; use your "huge [AASL] army" voice and vote. AASL has almost 9,000 members. Every vote counts! I will appreciate all votes for my bid for ALA President. My platform and qualifications are on my website: http://www.skj4ala.com. If you did not receive the e-mail with your ballot, call ALA membership at 1-800-545-2433 and choose option 5. Voting is open now and concludes at 11:59pm on April 23rd. And, encourage others to vote in person, with phone calls and online.
