We just finished a research unit and I saw tons of discrepancies. I stressed that the students need to ensure that they rearrange information so it's in MLA format. I make them practice writing out sample bibs, and they have to make hand-written bib cards for each source used. Somehow the pencil-on-paper method seems to help placement and punctuation stick with them better than cutting and pasting. Old school. (And I tried just sending this to Tere, but I got back some weird verification email that I didn't have time to process.) It appears that they are copying the author's name exactly how it is listed at the top of the article instead of putting it in correct MLA format. Event though it SAYS it is in MLA format. Some are listed first name then last name. Two authors are listed with both last names' first. The mistakes are all over the board. It is incredibly frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this?
