Doctorow's newest - "For the Win" - comes out soon, and your student will LOVE IT!
I've read the ARC and am working on a review to be posted at Abookandahug.com soon.
Cory always releases his work online under Creative Commons (free!) when the print
book is published, and he says that the online version generates lots of print
purchases. Must be true, because I read "Little Brother" through Daily Lit.com
(which also has other Doctorow incl his short stories) then bought it in print so I
could pass it around.

Neal Stephenson also uses the technogeek versus the business-military-government in
his books like "Zodiac", "Snow Crash" and "Cryptonomicon" but language might be a
bit rough. His "Anathaem" is huge (as are the 3 books of Baroque Cycle set in
1600s-1700s) - takes place on a different world, using belief, math and human
nature as themes.

Has he read the Hungry City series by Reeve? Rather steampunk, the 1st is "Mortal
Engines" - Imagine entire cities on immense treads, driven by steam power,
devouring smaller cities for materials... class struggles, technology questions.

I have pointed my students to the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld, Truancy by
Isamu Fikui, 1984 by George Orwell, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Feed by M.T.
Anderson, The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins, The
Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson and this link is helpful:

So Yesterday and the other Westerfeld books.

Paranoid Park by Blake Nelson, Candor by Bachorz, and of course my kids are crazy
about Collins' Hunger Games series and Ness' Chaos Walking series.  One of my
voracious readers loved Westerfeld's Leviathan .

How about Unwind by Shusterman or Maze Runner by Dashner?

I sent out a request yesterday for suggestions on summer reading with books
involving treachery.  I have not read the following books, but Little Brother was
one mentioned.  You might also look at:  Sorrell's First Shot (not sure of
author) and Compound by Bodeen.   I have read Unwind by Schusterman (very good)
and The Hunger Games 1 & 2 by Collins (also very good).    Someone also mentioned
Ender's Game.    Hope this helps.

Perhaps Carbon Diaries? (There is also a sequel that is just out)

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

Streams of Babel by Plum-Ucci
Icecore by Whyman
Boot Camp by Strasser
Bunker 10 by Henderson
Rikers High by Volponi
Lockdown by Smith
Numbers by Ward
Candor by Bachorz

Little Brother is on my summer reading list - we just got it in this spring!  Book
Seer recommended a few titles so here's the link:

Have you had success with students reading Going Bovine by Libba Bray?  It has a
conspiracy plot with a wild ride to get to the end...A few of my freshman have
loved it, and a few others are grappling for it.  ;)

My favorite readalike sites (have author & title handy):
The Book Seer

What should I read next?

Hope this helps.  :)
