My grades are 3-5. I have a forty minute class each week. The first 20 is a
lesson. The last 20 is for the kids to look for and check out books. I've
run over on my lesson several times and had to cut check out down. I hate
it. The kids have to rush to grab a book.
Are your teachers sharing what topics they'd like the kids to be reading?
My wanderers are told to sit down if they aren't going to look for books.
Everyone knows what is expected and how their time is supposed to be spent.
I don't require a "quiet" library but it's should stay calm and a low level
of noise. Other wise I don't really mind if they just wander, sometimes it
leads to their friends showing them books of interest. We go over all of
this a few times in the beginning of the year and it works. I can't imagine
cutting check out and book selection to less. Even on the days they are
done early it's reading ! time!&nbs >
