Dear Great and Wise Ones: Well, it is May. That time of year when we scurry to recapture the far flung collection, complete reports, collect fines, etc. One of my dear friends who taught vocal music was always saying that "teachers have tunnel vision. They only have eyes for their own department." I must agree. Earlier this week we all had to go to the basement during a tornado warning. Part of the basement is used for In School Suspension. While in that room I noticed some books on the counter and in the floor. I went to investigate and found 5 books that belong in the library. They were barcoded with the library name on them. I just thought, "How much effort would it have taken for the teacher(s) in ISS to bring or send those books back to the library?" I also thought, "If that had been a baseball uniform lying there, the teacher(s) would have made sure that it was returned to the baseball coach or the athletic department." Another insight/complaint: Why do I have to do gate duty at basketball games when the PE department does nothing to help out the library? Especially when there are several coaches on staff and they are paid extra money to coach. Retiring at the end of the year. Going to work part-time next year in the library. Thank goodness. Thanks for listening. -- Kay Goss Mansfield Secondary Library 316 West Ohio Ave. Mansfield, Mo. 65704 417-924-3236 Ext. 311 goss.kay@gmail.com Each had his past shut in him like the leaves of a book known to him by heart, and his friends could only read the title.
