Friends:

Every district needs a policy for late or lost library books.
It should be in line with late or lost text books, lunch money bills and anything
else that a students can owe to a school.
It should be approved by the administration.
It should be published in the student handbook.

And it should have a step BEYOND the librarian.
What happens to a student who owes library books at the end of the school year?
Should be the same thing that happens for lost text books and outstanding lunch
room bills.

At the end of the school year (or every quarter, or semester, or whatever is agreed
upon)
the librarian, the classroom teachers who hand out text books, and the cafeteria
director
should give the main office a list of students with outstanding bills.

If your school district lets students go who owe the district money that is a
district level problem.
