Fellow Librarians,
We have 4 more weeks of school and I am tossing around an idea of encouraging our
k-2 students and families to spend some time this summer with 8- 10 must know book
characters.

My packet would go home to students entering k-2 and our outgoing second graders
soon to be third graders. So the list can be a mix of picture and chapter
books(which could be read alouds appropriate to this age group). I am thinking
about strong characters who really teach us something so that during the year,
teachers can refer back to these characters and their stories. Weslandia- teaches
about being yourself and creativity within you. I don't want to use the usual
books that teachers will teach with during the year.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan to engage the families over
the summer using some web2.0 tools. I will share my unit if it comes together!
Thanks,
Jane Martellino
