One of my sad ones is the girl who came in and told me that she would
love to return her book but couldn't. Her mother had been caught drunk
driving and the car was in the police impound yard. They couldn't get
the book until her mother got out on bail.
Another one is the boy who said they had been in an accident and the car
was in the wrecker yard so he couldn't get his book back.
A kindergartener's confusion: When asked why he hadn't brought back his
book, he said but I thought it was mine. We got to keep the other ones.
(We do RIF in the library where every child gets a book and he confused
it with borrowing a book).
