I am in the middle of reading Ophelia (along with a number of other books) and
appreciate the depth the author gives to the characters of Hamlet and Ophelia: how
Hamlet feels about Claudio's working his way into the country's (and queen's)
favor, Ophelia's impressions of the motives of those (including her father and
brother) around her, and so on. It is definitely a worthwhile read, whether or not
one has read the Shakespeare play. If one has, there is definitely food for
discussion comparing the outcomes of the two works.
