Original Post
Hello, A teacher new to 2nd grade asked about any sites I know of for
helping to level a classroom library according to Fountas and Pinnel
standards - anyone?? TIA!! Ellen

Most responses were for the scholastic book wizard, so I grouped these
together. F & P site info is together as well. Hope it is helpful for all
- enjoy! (Now on the Almanac hit :)

   - Other than using the F & P site itself I use Scholastic's Book Wizard.
The titles aren't always there but it does a decent job.
   - Try this site. Check Guided Reading in the top right corner.
   - The only free one I know of is the Scholastic Wizard:

   - Scholastic has some great resources to help with this, also. Below is
   one.

   - Follett/Destiny does provide levels for F & P and F &P published a book
that her literacy coach may be able to help her with where you can look up
titles and the level right in the book.
   - Ellen, are you aware of the official F and P site? Here is the link.

http://www.fountasandpinnellleveledbooks.com/default.aspx

It is a subscription basis, about $15 and you get to log in a specific
number of times to check on books. I used it when I was a fifth grade
teacher for a year only. I tried to have a list of books to check on each
time, rather than just using it randomly to check one or two titles. After
the year, I knew a great deal about my classroom library and the books I was
offering kids for book reports, so I did not resubscribe.

   - I gave this attached list to my teachers when they needed to level
their classroom libraries. The Guided Reading Level column is the F&P
level. (From Ellen - I made this into a google docs in order to share with
   all :)

   - F&P has a database of all their books and levels on their website. It
does cost money to access, but is the most convenient way to look
things up.
They also have a book that you can use to search by title. Both are easy
to find on the F&P website. I have used both and I find the website much
   easier.
   - Scholastic, Mackin, Follett/titlewave all have free for the taking F&P
information with their collection tools. Login and search for titles.
   - F&P has its own website, log in and very low cost per day access to all
their database...worthwhile if your teacher has a volunteer doing lots of
books at a time. F&P information
   http://www.fountasandpinnellleveledbooks.com/
   - I don't know of a site, but there is a book called Guided Reading: Good
First Teaching for All Children by Fountas and Pinnell that my teachers use
   all the time. Amazon, perhaps?
   - Scholastic's Teacher Book Wizard is a good one (easy to find on
   Google).
   - www.fountasandpinnellleveledbooks.com is the actual F&P site, but it
   costs 75 cents per login.
   - We use Scholastic and Mackin for this. I would love to see a hit on
this to see if there are any others.
