We have a student who needs large print books, but not all the books she wants to
read are available in large print, and as a matter of fact most of the ones she's
asked me for are not. We have some programs for the visually impaired, but they are
almost all talking books. Her reading teachers want her to READ. I was thinking of
buying a Kindle for the library and downloading the books she wants, and she can
then blow the Kindle print up to any size she wants. I know I'd have a problem with
Amazon not accepting purchase orders for the Kindle downloads, but are there any
other downsides to this? We'd have a parent sign a permission slip to replace it if
it was damaged while she had it. I'm thinking that while there still are a lot of
books that aren't available for the Kindle, there are more than seem to be
available in large print. I figure other kids can use the Kindle and the Kindle
versions of the books so it would be more cost effective in the long run than
trying to buy up a bunch of books in large print.

Any other suggestions for obtaining books for middle schoolers in large print?
