I need a book title(s) for freshmen English. They currently read The Outsiders and the teacher would really like to explore another title to add to the curriculum. It can be anything age appropriate but it can't be intimidating in length - think along the lines of reluctant readers. It needs to be instantly engaging and would probably be good if it were a little suspenseful or edgy to hook the reader. Sophomores already use Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie and Frankie Banks which are two of my faves. I would love to find something along those lines as they have great substance and word play in them.
