William L. Katzenberger Media Specialist and Technology Coordinator Dodge Park Elementary School 3401 Hubbard Rd Landover, MD 20785 ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: "William Katzenberger" <bkatzenb@pgcps.org> To: "william katzenberger" <william.katzenberger@comcast.net> Sent: Thursday, September 2, 2010 7:57:17 AM Subject: Fwd: Free books for students in Title I schools First Book is working with a corporate partner to distribute hundreds of thousands of books in four cities: DC, LA, Chicago, Dallas. As you can see from the attached flier, the title list really is incredible—tons of Newbery and Caldecott award winners along with other classics no child should grow up without. Plus, the best part is that these books (as well as the shipping of these books) is completely FREE to Title I schools. So, I’d love it if you could share this information with other TFA folks in DC (or Chicago, LA, and Dallas). In your specific situation, my suggestion would be to speak with your principal or school librarian about the total number of students in your school so that you could apply for books for the entire school instead of just your classroom—we don’t want to leave anyone out! The first thing you will need to do is to register with First Book ( http://booksforkids.firstbook.org/register/ ) and then you can apply. Please note however that these books will go QUICKLY. I would suggest applying in the next two days; books will be allocated on a first come-first served basis. If you have any questions let me know or feel free to contact our HELP team at HELP@firstbook.org . All best wishes—and looking forward to seeing you soon.
