Hello Everybody,

Okay, if you're like me you constantly meet those young fellows who just want to
climb on and under the tables and chairs in the library rather than check out
books. So, I make mental notes of books that might grab their attention. Here is
a lulu!

Zombiekins by Kevin Bolger and illustrated by Aaron Blecha published by Razorbill
(Penguin) June 2010 224 pages Ages 8-11

Cue the Jaws music 'cause here comes Zombiekins. He looks harmless sitting there
at the little old yard sale in the uneventful town of Dementedyville with "one
floppy bunny ear on a teddy bear's head and body....webbed paws with sharp
claws..feet like a lizard...and two fangs instead of a rabbit's buckteeth." Hey,
what's not to love? Pals, Stanley and Miranda are looking for something special
and when Stanley spots this little beauty, he is sold. "My dear...zat is no
ordinary toy...It's full of surprises," reveals the Widow Imavitch. And she wasn't
kidding. Stanley takes Zombiekins with him to school and it bites Miss Goody-Goody
Felicity and heads out the door of the classroom to sample a few more kids.
Felicity quickly becomes a zombie and she's only the first. Kid after kid falls
prey to this little monster. He's out of control. How can Stanley and Miranda
stop his reign of terror? Is he headed to the kindergarten class where the boys
are eating crayons and glue? Where the little girl is throwing dishes and yelling
why don't you get a job to her pretend husband in the kitchen center area? This is
pretty hilarious stuff and non-stop action. Great for reluctant readers who want
something edgy, exciting and funny all rolled into one. Ages 8-11 208 pages

PS When I read the line out loud about the kindergartner in the "play house center"
throwing the dishes and yelling to her pretend husband,"When are you going to get a
job?" the four adult fiction librarians nearby ran to the computer to put a copy of
the book on reserve for themselves. It's a riot.

Best,
Barb
