They have discontinued home ec and placed our home ec/cooking teacher in a class called reference and research. She came to me yesterday with a plan to bring her 6th graders in to do research after I give them a couple of research lessons. She is quite excited with her choice of topics: the history of different kinds of foods, for example the history of pizza. I was hoping that some of you could give me some suggestions for extending it to include higher order thinking skills. I don't know if they could get into why those particular foods originated where they are, perhaps because of the crops, the climate, ....... This just does not seem like a topic to stimulate their brains. Thank you for any suggestions.
