Re: Civil rights/protest read alouds

For reading aloud in general:  Short stories from Gallo's collections,
e.g., in Sixteen, there's "Priscilla and the wimps" that the kids just
love.  Also, from Jane Yolen's collections e.g. Vampires.  The House that
Crack Built went over well with my 6th graders during orientation.  Poems
like Jabberwocky.
