      *** NEW VERSION OF THE ONLINE WORLD SHAREWARE BOOK ***


The Online World is a book about the  practical use of the
global  online information resource.  It describes resources
on major global networks and services as the Internet,
Usenet, CompuServe, BITNET, Fidonet, Echo, DIMDI, NIFTY-
Serve, and others.

The book explores selected applications across country,
network and service boundaries showing how needs can be met.
The examples range from databases to entertainment and the
bizarre to special services for  professionals and
organizations.

The following major changes have been done to the book since
its last release:

* Majordomo
* MIME
* Added references to several Frequently Asked Questions files
* More on Internet "demos",

* More books.
* The Sierra Network is now The ImagiNation Network.
* URL (Universal Resource Locater), and HTTP.
* Irving Kind's Glossary of Computer Oriented Abbreviations and Acronyms
* The text has been reformated. Margins are now 1-76. Single-spaced
  text with double-spacing between paragraphs, and with full-block
  text rather than indentations at the beginning of paragraphs.
* Readers can now send their credit card number by PGP encrypted
  email when registering.


The book can be retrieved from various libraries on the
Internet, CompuServe, and through other services. For
example, Internet-connected users can ftp to OAK.Oakland.Edu
(141.210.10.117). The file is in the directory
/pub/msdos/info Log on as user 'anonymous'. The file name is
online13.zip (270KB).

A plain text version of the book can be retrieved by
anonymous ftp from EUnet Norway at ftp.eunet.no as
/pub/text/online.txt (663 KB+). A compressed version is in
the file /pub/text/online.txt.Z .
