I think Earl was referring to the practice of dropping individual's
names and email addresses from HITS. You can go back to the archives
for some fairly long discussions  on this.  It does make it hard to
response to an individual in a hit, if there is no name or address. I
also feel that posters have to use discretion with the summary if the
topic  is controversial.
