Chinese Fiction - Middle School

We are working on developing a 6th Grade integrated unit on Ancient China.
We are searching for an appropriate book for that level. They need a full
length novel.  The literature teacher does not want to use short stories or
folk tales (my original thought) because they have several units
incorporating short stories already in the curriculum.  It would be
wonderful if you could think of any suggestions..
