Star Spangled Banner

Dear LM_NETters,
Friday, Sept 14, is the 187th anniversary of the writing of the "Star
Spangled Banner" (written during the War of 1812). All week (as in before
today's events), I have taught the national anthem in the library by using
Peter Spier's book, "Star Spangled Banner" and Whitney Houston's video from
the Super Bowl during the Gulf War. On Friday, we had already planned to
play, during morning announcements, a recording of Sandy Patti singing the
song. I say all this to say that perhaps some of you would be interested in
somehow celebrating the national anthem in light of today's events. I,
personally, have presented it in terms of the poem, not the music (to avoid
getting the way of the music teacher, plus it's not the birthday of the song
this week.) You can find lots of teaching information in the back of Spier's
book.
