Today when I woke I was reminded that yesterday wasn't a dream. I didn't want to come to school...I was still drawn to the television set. In order to not let the terrorists "win", I got dressed and came to school. Yesterday we did have the television on in several of the classrooms on our campus. Many of the high school students grasped the seriousness of the situation, but the younger students (6 - 8th grade) continued being children (giggling, laughing, poking). I realize now that many of the students yesterday were more mystified by our shock and reaction, than they were to the events unfolding in New York and in Washington D.C. Our responsibility, today and in the years to come, to our children is to show them how to grieve, to show them national pride, and to show them how to rise above such tragedy. We will show them that a hero is more often a comman man than a caped superhero. We've all heard the saying..."what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"...I am modifying that saying...These deaths have made us stronger. My thoughts and prayers to all.
