I forgot that attachments cannot come through LM_NET so here is the HIT concerning making web pages using Netscape composer. You may have already heard this but as a general rule, she will need Netscape 6.2. Internet explorer will work also. It is probably because of the screen size and not thw verision difference. When designing on a larger screen, she needs to think with the samller screen in mind or just change the screen dimensions in the appearance to a lessr viewing so it will look similiar. The key word is similiar, not all screen or browsers show the same design exactly. If you set your monitor to 640 by 480(for the really small screens 13-14 inch)or 800 by 600 (for the larger screens 15 inch) it will get into the ballpark for the screens. The pages will look different on different computers, depending on the fonts in browser preferences, the resolution of the monitor, etc. The only way I know to make the windows the same size on all computers is to pick a window that you think MOST of your users will have, and design for that. Check out foodtv.com and see that the content is restricted to the left of the window (on my machine anyway, 1024x768) which would fit full screen on a smaller monitor (14-15") and a lower resolution like 832x624 or even 640x480. Only way to be SURE that the "page" will look the same is to make all of them .gif, and that defeats the purpose of the interactivity of the web. My first guess is that you don't have 19" monitors at school, right? And there is the distinct possibility that the resolution settings are different also. So, depending on the designing package that was used, my guess is the width was set in pixels and is too wide to be handled on the school machines. A pretty good explanation is at: http://www.webwizguide.com/web_design/design/page_sizes.asp Start with coding for a 750-800 pixel width, then compare. I would check the resolution settings (Control Panel/Display/Settings) The various OS and NS/IE versions shouldn't have anything to do with it. Hi- I created my school library webpage with Composer, and my answer is that the page needs to be designed with as much centering as possible- with Composer, it doesn't matter what the monitor size specifically is - people set their monitors for different size fonts, or use different versions of Netscape or Explorer- the page will vary in too many ways to possibly address them all- Centering semed to solve some of them. You can probably get the most control by using tables, and put your different elements in different cells of the table, you control the placement to some extent, but there are still lots of variables. The best is really to make a simple design where it doesn't matter so much. ===== Wanda Nall Library Media Specialist Hereford ISD Hereford, Tx 79045 wandanall@hisd.net __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
