I see "a lot" written as one word ("alot") more and more,
and the culprits, unfortunately, are usually adults (teachers,
graduate students, journalists, etc.).

And somehow the pronunciation of the word "picture" has become
"pitcher" in all media. I have heard people from all walks of life,
from news anchors to professors to actors, use this pronunciation, and it's
jarring, to say the least. I saw a film clip yesterday from a new movie which
is set in the 1920's, and the actress (Jennifer Tilly) had to
refer to "motion pictures" about four times in the scene. Every time
she said it, she said "pitcher". The fact that the director did not
notice the error and "take two" makes it clear that this pronunciation
is becoming common and accepted.

Other ear-breakers include "supposably" (formerly "supposedly"),
and "fustrated" for "frustrated".

In spite of how aggravating this is, I am enjoying reading this thread!
And please pardon any grammatical errors I may have made when
composing this note. ;-)
