We are "open" till the last student day. Checkout stops two weeks before
the end of school. I start inventory right before Spring Break. I print
out a shelf list for each section and put a check mark if the book is on
the shelf. This gives me a "hard copy" each year of the collection.
I (my volunteers) check a section or two a week. After all the books are
"in" and the school year is over, I go back and look for the books that
were missing the first go around. I can go through the whole collection
in the day of post planning we have. I'm not looking for every book just
the ones that didn't get checked off the first time. I save the "busy"
sections till the end. We do reference first because they should be on
the shelf :)
I like this because I can edit my typos :(). I have a hard copy. It's
easy to "see" what's missing. I make notes on the sheets of "old"
sections, sparse sections, missing books, etc.
I admit I've never gotten the hang of using the wand and walking around
and downloading Supposedly it's easier......
