I feel a little silly chiming in again, but there you go. Our school does its inventory the hard way--a physical inventory and lots of sheets of paper on a clipboard. Because the bar code is inside the back cover of each volume, we pull it out to be sure it has the correct bar code. The advantage to this process is that it gives me the opportunity to determine whether a book might be too old or in need of repair. It's also a good opportunity to read the shelves, clean books, etc. The disadvantage is that it usually takes about two weeks. The inventory is taken at the end of the school year, but I do get paid for the time involved. We have Horizon, and are in the budget planning phase to update Horizon, which would include an automated inventory. (No more trees to kill!) When that will happen depends on the priorities set by those who make budgets for the school. Hope that helps. Mary L.
