LM_NET Archive



My Webster's II Riverside University Dictionary lists sneaked as acceptable
use.  This jumped out at me since waaaay back in 1957 when I wrote a 6th
grade report on Hawaii I wrote, "The Japs snuck up on Pearl Harbor."  My
teacher marked me down for the use of snuck instead of sneaked.  This was
soon enough after WWII apparently to not make "Japs" the objectionable
usage.  This is a favorite example of mine of how our language and political
correctness change over time
