We have a policy in our school that when such damage happens, the department the teacheris part of is responsible for repair/replacement costs - it comes out of their budget. Once we enacted this, it brought our repair problems down to almost zero. You might bet your principal to add that TVs should never bemoved from their original carts as a student safety issue - the TV cart combination is chosen to prevent the TV from falling on a student. It has happened in someschools. Make a big deal about it from that point of view. > > >2. Get a new copy of the volume from the encyclopedia co, and charge the dept. See item #1. And now, you have a good example to use when you explain you won't be loaning out the newest set of encyclopedias. Even better - get them on line. > > >Insurance and the current school budget won't pay for replacements for >lost/destroyed materials and/or equipment. > >Let me know what your school policy is for teacher equipment and materials >losses. Is the policy different for "teacher negligence"? Accidents sometime do happen and it's important to make that consideration. Just recently we had a problem with computer equipment falling off a cart -the cart's wheel broke off, and it was no one's fault. You can't get upset about that.
