Check for titles on this subject through the Compassion Books website: http://www.compassionbooks.com There are several different titles listed for various situations dealing with death, illness, etc. You may already own some of these books or if you need to order one, you can quickly get one from this vendor (or other online bookstores, such as Amazon.com). You can check for the "teacher / school" area on the website, or the "death of a child / baby" to find some titles. There are also several for younger students under "children and grief." I know others will offer more titles, but this should give you a great start in seeing what is out there as a whole. I've ordered from the company and their materials are good--- especially when it's often hard to locate these types of materials during a time of grief. This is now my first stop for materials on these subjects. Hope this helps some. (Please extend my sympathy to your friend for her loss.) ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Melissa Toner" <mtoner8@YAHOO.COM> To: <LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 9:10 PM Subject: OT: book re: baby's death > I need some help from all you wise and compassionate people on this list. My very good friend and colleague unexpectedly lost her baby New Year's Eve. On Monday, she went into premature labor (her due date was Feb 19) and on Wednesday about 9:00 pm she delivered the baby stillborn. It was a long three days at the hospital with her...well four if you count today also. She should be released tomorrow (Friday) morning. She is doing well physically and hanging in there emotionally. Of course, she won't be returning to work on Monday when school begins again after the holidays. She teaches third grade, and it's been a very stressful year with many difficult, troubled, behavior issue students. For some reason, several of our third grade classes are like that this year. She was talking to me at the hospital and she's concerned that the students will think their behavior could have caused this or something like that. She asked me to try to find an appropriate book to read ! > to them. > I had given her a book to read to them when she announced and discussed her pregnancy with them earlier in the school year. Does anyone have a suggestion of a book to read or another activity that our counselor or myself can use on Monday morning, Jan 5 (or Wednesday, Jan 7 when I have the class during media time)? I think it would probably be good to have another book/activity ready to use just before she returns to work in a few weeks. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm also going to search through the archives but just haven't had a chance yet and need to catch up on some sleep first! > > Thank you > > Melissa Toner > > media specialist > > Idlewild Elementary > > Charlotte, NC > > mtoner8@yahoo.com > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Find out what made the Top Yahoo!
